It's a hundred times harder to use than dos,
if there is a brownout and you don't have a ups the filesystem is
nonrecoverable. still if your hardware is sound Linux should run without
problems. It takes a bs in computer science to get it operational.
You can't run any common software on it.
It's the worst os except for any Micro$oft os.

I plan to write DOS 8.

DOS IS *STILL* BOSS!!!!!!!!!

Hi:

What an unusual thing to say.

I feel I must correct you on a number of issues. I am a New User to Linux
and I must confess the first few weeks could be very frustrating but I am
now getting my second wind and I couldn't imagine going back to an
exclusively DOS environment. The first thing I would try to do in DOS would
be to fire up another virtual consol or send a process into the background
(Linux is totally multi-user and multi-tasking right from the prompt) and I
would be in tears because of course DOS can't do any of those things.

Then I would be forced to deal with all the severe limitations of writing
code for a 16bit, 64k memory block, single processor, singled threaded
operating system (DOS) with severe memory problems (640k ~) and and an
antiquated file system (8.3 DOS +32meg). I would also have difficulty buying
new books on DOS because all the hot DOS people have moved on to other OSs.

The ext2 Linux file systems are easy to repair in the event of large scale
damage as a result of inadvertant power outages because it has mutliple
superblocks throughout the partition that contains all the information
concerning the partition - it is the matter of a few minutes work to repair
a totally unmountable ext2 file system. I have had a DOS partition turn to
green putty before my eyes and it was very difficult to repair without
losing vast quatities of files and data. I needed expensive aftermarket
tools to do the repairs (Norton DD) and the results weren't great.

As regards my BS in computer science, I wish I had one. I downloaded (for
free, mind you) a small copy of Linux and an assortment of amazing tools
from the Internet and I even downloaded a book in text which I formatted and
printed for nothing (other than the cost of ISP time and paper). That got me
started and I never looked back. Never want to look back.

By the way, how much is MS selling DOS 6.02 for these days?

: I plan to write DOS 8.

How unfortunate for you.

:DOS IS *STILL* BOSS!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm.

Well, lots of luck.

Regards,

Brian
