I was hoping to go to Darl McBride's presentation at UVSC yesterday, but
work got in the way. Did anyone go? Did he say anything interesting (read
inaccurate) about Linux? Did anything interesting (read controversial) happen?

Yep.

Did he say anything interesting

You had to ask? :)

It was just his same old spiel about how IBM stole from SCO and put it
in Linux, and how you can't make money giving stuff away for free. He
then proceeded to give out free pens afterwards. Go figure.

Nothing particularly controversial.

Attempts to blend with the rest of the student body failed miserably as
Darl pointed me out several times. Next time I guess I'll have to wear
sunglasses, a trenchcoat, and a hat.

Frank Sorenson, incidentally, has been indispensible in the SCO battle. Look
through the groklaw archives sometime, and you'll see many, many
transcriptions and live reports painstakingly produced by Frank.

I hereby propose an evening of SCO-bashing and other geekly revelry in honor
of Frank (and any other local groklaw contributors who he wishes to identify),
to happen on the night of his choosing (preferably in the next two weeks) at
the restaurant of his choosing. I'll buy his dinner, but anyone else who
wants to add to the thanks can pitch in and we'll split his check.

RSVP to me via email if you want to join in, and Frank, pick a date and a
place.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If Frank picks a date I can come, I'll
help with the check. Sadly, I'll only be around from Dec. 10 to Dec. 16.

Sounds like fun. Sometime that week would work great for me. I'm open
for suggestions on when & where!

Thanks!
